Club Rotario de Boquete Meeting
Club Rotario de Boquete’s guest speaker on August 24th is Maritza Anderson, Director of Casa Esperanza, a non-profit organization that has been working since 1992 to provide development opportunities to children and adolescents living in poverty, especially those involved in child labor.
Maritza will discuss the need for foster families and the negative impact the lack of a loving family environment can have on a child's development.
Casa Esperanza recently started an initiative for a pilot program, with the support of UNICEF, to maintain and increase the number of foster families to provide care for children and teenagers who have suffered physical or psychological abuse.
During this pilot program, they aim to certify at least 10 foster families and to create a support network for them. The ultimate goal is to share this model with other organizations to achieve a national expansion of certified foster families, as currently there are over 1,000 children and teenagers in need of this throughout the country.
